Show Notes
Ted Behr AKA Coach Ted began his career as a coach over 19 years ago. As a certified professional coach, he provides coaching and education to adults affected by ADHD. He helps them to get focused and productive so that they can have a life full of joy and fulfillment. Ted shares that for people with ADHD, their brain chemistry works a little differently than for most people and they display symptoms such as difficulty staying focused and starting things without finish them. He says the population of ADHD is on the rise due to the many distractions from a hectic lifestyle: electronic devices, family planning, work schedules and more. There is no test for ADHD necessarily, and it’s usually diagnosed through working with psychologists or psychiatrists and following a series of questionnaires and meetings. Ted works with people in a few areas; one is on the challenges the client is facing and working on the strengths that come from ADHD as well. Together, they work to create structures and systems to essentially do the work that the brains aren’t doing. “ADHD is not just a set of problems, it actually comes with some real gifts. People with ADHD tend to be very creative.” Ted notes people with ADHD often become actors, musicians, scientists and more, and if they receive the proper treatment then those strengths get to shine. If people aren’t being treated and they are really struggling with being focused, getting distracted and being able to get organized, this is where all their energy goes, and they will not be to take advantage of their strengths. He also explains that it also helps people if they attach their new habit to a habit they already have. For example, if you brush your teeth every morning, then attach that new habit to that that already exists. To listen on Itunes & subscribe to The Wellness Show
